The sixth edition of the International Study Days on Literary Space took place in the beautiful city of Viseu in Portugal, on September 26th, 27th and 28th, 2018. As always, the Conference was extremely productive. The focus of research for the 2018 Conference were the prolific works of Brazilian critic António Candido.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Robert Tally who, through videoconference, addressed the topic of “Mapping Literature”. It is the written version of his lecture that opens this issue of the journal.
In addition, we had the participation of a Korean teacher from Seoul and a German doctorate student from the city of Cologne. The texts of these two researchers are also to be found in this issue of Topus.
Thus, we believe we are right to assume that we are at the forefront of research regarding the role of space in literary works, ahead of other Conferences approaching this same subject, not only in Portugal but also in Spain and in other countries where the issue of Spatiality has, not that long ago, begun to capture the attention of scholars.
We are very happy to acknowledge that each edition of the International Study Days on Literary Space has become more and more productive each year, giving rising to new and enriching research and reflections. Therefore, we await with optimistic expectations the 7th edition (2019) of The International Study Days on Literary Space, which will, most surely deepen reflections, add strength to and enhance this field of studies.
